Some of our users may have had problems logging into our forums lately. The reason is that we implemented a tiny fix/ workaround for our URL adding www. in front of the address.

This has messed things up for sertain users as the forum leaves cookies and session ID info in the cookies on your local computer.

The way to fix this is either to go into IE and Options and delete cookies (note that this will remove ALL your cookies on your computer). So if you have other web sites you still want to keep your info and settings on - I suggest that you go into Explorer and search for your cookie folder (cool peeps use Total Commander Very Happy ).

The folder is placed a bit different regarding what OS you are running. In XP you have to navigate to your Documents and Settings folder and find your user name and you should find the cookies folder easily.

In Vista it's a bit more hidden under Users -> "username" -> AppData -> Roaming -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Cookies.

You'll find a bunch of txt-files and one of them should be @the-left-overs.com

When you delete this file you can head off to the forum and a new one will be created but now with the @www.the-left-overs.com name.

PS. Also remember to update your bookmarks to www.the-left-overs.com on all your computers. You will have to do this procedure on every puter you use that had the old address bookmarked.

We're sorry for the troubble and please spread the word if you know others having the same problem with signing in to the forum.

Hmmm seems that this doesn't cure the problem 100% after all. Please report here if you have issues - we might have to roll back Confused

The problem will be worse rolling back again, the answer lies within the forum control panel settings now, I have pm'ed Ray the info. It seems the SQL database needs setting to the www url now, not the http url it was first setup to, which is why the problems went away for some when everyone used the http url.

Once this has been done and every user clears their browser cache and updates their bookmarks after a period of time it should resolve itself. Having the redirect will then take away the chance of anyone bookmarking the http url which would cause further issues again.

Have added the www so i hope it will do the trick. We still have the cookie thing to deal whit but we just have to spread the word and make people update their bookmarks and clears their browser cache.

So start spreading the work people!!

I got word from Krakil that some versions of Win XP does not have the cookies the place we had described, so he used this freeware program to find it:

http://www.pablosoftwaresolutions.com/html/cookie_viewer.html

That worked fine for him.

Thank you for that Krakil Very Happy

This have now been tested on the worst case scenario where a user asked me to delete his account so he could make a new..

As it was a cookie problem deleting him did not help him one bit.

I asked him to run CCleaner and do a complete cleanup.

This worked and he is now back with us.

I have always used some utility to clear my browser cache, you kind of expect everyone to do the same, its just good practice.
